On the Floor
ON THE FLOOR:
Verses to read: Philippians 2:7-8
My wife and I are expecting our first child. We have been praying for several years that God would grant us a child. What a wonderful blessing our God has given us! I look forward to fatherhood and the ministry that awaits me. It will be great to lie on the floor of our apartment and play as my child climbs all over me, laughing and tickling.
These bonding experiences between parent and child are so important. As the parent sets aside his strength, height, and stature to come down to the child’s level, they get to know one another on an intimate level that is nearly unmatched. The child senses the parent’s vulnerable position and takes advantage of the bonding time.
As I think of playing these games with my child, I remember my heavenly Father. The Son of God “made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness” (Philippians 2:7). How incredible that the Creator of everything came down from heaven to be with us! Humbling himself to our level, He came down to the floor—our world—so that we could know Him with an intimacy that is unmatched.
How sweet it is that He left his throne and regal stature to save us! How precious it is to be God’s child and to be loved like that. I look forward to the day when I can tell my child about the Savior—the One who came down from heaven to be with us.
